Dental Sealants
Getting dental sealants is simple and painless at Brookline Village Dental. Dr. Juriansz recommends sealants for children to prevent tooth decay. Sealants are thin, clear plastic coatings painted on the chewing surface of back teeth (molars and premolars).
Why Do Children Need Sealants?
Our back teeth often have deep groves and pits that are sometimes difficult to clean. By placing the sealant material on top of the tooth, Dr. Juriansz creates a tooth surface that is smoother to keep food particles and bacteria out of the groves.
Children get first molars around 6 years old. These first molars are more likely to have decay and need further dental treatment than other teeth because they erupt first. Sealing these teeth can often help prevent decay and future problems (fillings, crowns, root canals).
