Our Professional Teeth Cleanings
Teeth cleanings are a key component to good oral health. Did you know poor oral health could lead to a variety of dental and medical problems including gum disease and infection, bone loss, and even heart disease? Regular dental check-ups and cleanings can prevent problems like these.
We recommend having your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Most dental insurance covers regular cleanings however, if you are paying out of pocket please do not hesitate to call us.
Our cleanings include the following services below:
Dental X-rays at Our Brookline Dentist Office
Dental X-rays help reveal tooth fracture, dental decay, cysts or abscess and other pathology. They are also helpful to determine bone level and amount of bone loss, which helps to detect periodontal disease.
Our office uses digital X-rays to detect and diagnose oral issues that are not visible to the naked eye. Digital X-rays allow you to see your X-rays as they are taken; they are also much more convenient than traditional X-rays and save you time in the dentist chair.
We take a full series of X-rays every five years and at new patient visits. Bite-wing X-rays (X-rays of top and bottom teeth while they are biting together) are taken during check-ups; we recommend they be taken one to two times annually to detect new dental problems.
While we do not take X-rays during pregnancy, dental X-rays are considered safe. The amount of radiation exposure from a full mouth series of X-rays is around the amount a person receives in a single day from natural sources. Rest assured that at Brookline Dental Village we take all necessary precautions to limit your exposure to radiation.
Dental Check-Ups at Our Brookline Dentist Office
Regular dental check-ups, or oral exams, are an essential part of keeping tabs on and maintaining good oral health. Our regular check-ups and exams include the following:
Digital X-rays: Dental X-rays are an essential tool for detecting tooth decay, cysts, bone loss and tumors. X-rays also help us to perceive tooth and root position.
Oral cancer screening: This is an examination of your face, lips, neck, throat, tongue, gums and tissues for any sign of oral cancer.
Gum disease exam: A gum disease exam is performed to evaluate your gums and bones that surround your teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
Tooth decay exam: All of the surfaces of your teeth will be checked for tooth decay with special dental tools.
Exams of existing restorations: All of your existing fillings and crowns will be evaluated.
Occlusion analysis: This is a bite-analysis evaluation for any issues, such as TMJ.
Our Brookline dental office works hard to make dental check-ups and cleanings convenient and pleasant for you. We will take the time to talk to you because it is important that you understand your dental care.
